contents Aneurisma verdadero en arteria ciática persistente. Caso clínico JUAN BOMBIN F. ALEJANDRO KOTLIK A. HÉCTOR SAN MARTÍN G. GABRIEL SEGUEL S Medicina aneurysm surgical treatment Persistent sciatic artery We report the case of a 71 years old female patient, who had a partially thrombosed true aneurysm in a persistent sciatic artery (PSA), treated in the Surgery Department of Hospital Dr. Eduardo Pereira of Val- paraíso. The sciatic artery arises from the umbilical artery and during early embryological state is the main blood supply of the lower limbs. Later, the super fi cial femoral artery appears with the subsequent progressive involution of the sciatic artery. PSA is a rare congenital vascular anomaly that occurs when sciatic artery fails to regress during fetal development. This is associated with super fi cial femoral artery hipoplasia and the PSA becomes the dominant arterial in fl ow to the lower limb. This anatomic abnormality may be bilateral and can remain asymptomatic for many years, however, it has been described aneurysmal degeneration, like in this case, symptoms of sciatic nerve compression, aneurysm thrombosis and distal embolization. 2010 artículo científico 0379-3893 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=345531944014 es http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=3455 Revista Chilena de Cirugía application/pdf Sociedad de Cirujanos de Chile Revista Chilena de Cirugía (Chile) Num.5 Vol.62
