ARQUERO MARANN BYRNE BARBARA FLOOD JOSE MARIA GONZALEZ Economía y Finanzas motives Accounting education academic performance Spanish higher education expectations and preparedness Understanding the motives, expectations and preparedness of students is important foraccounting educators, as they seek to develop learning environments that promote highquality learning outcomes. This paper examines these factors with a sample of entry levelstudents on a Business and Management degree at a Spanish university. The study alsoexplores the influence of these antecedent variables on academic performance in the firstaccounting module. The data were collected using a Spanish version of the MEPUquestionnaire, which was developed by Byrne and Flood (2005 and 2007). The analysisrevealed that students are motivated by a combination of intrinsic and vocationally-orientedfactors and feel well prepared for higher education. Interest in accounting, experience of thesubject at school, academic self-confidence and university access scores were all significantlycorrelated with performance. Some interesting gender differences were identified andvariation among regular and repeating students was also examined. 2009 artículo científico 1138-4891 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=359733634004 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=3597 Revista de Contabilidad application/pdf Asociación Española de Profesores Universitarios de Contabilidad Revista de Contabilidad (España) Num.2 Vol.12 |
