| contents | The "resposta que alguns padres de japão mandaram perguntar": a clash of strategies? Ana Fernandes Pinto Silvana Remédio Pires Historia This article is a brief introductory study of the Resposta que alguns padres de Japão mandaram perguntar, prepared by the theologian Francisco Rodrigues S.J. (1515-1573). The complete text of this work is also published alongside and this overviewreflects upon the casuistry presented therein: 47 questions in which Francisco Rodrigues develops a moral discussion about problems as diverse as the administrationand practices of the sacraments in Japan and the missionaries’ adaptation to Japanese social and economic practices. The authors have sought to analyse the pastoral and theological choices of the Resposta in the light of the decrees of the I Provincial Council of Goa (1567), the trustworthy repository of the orthodoxy and the normative efforts of the authorities based in Goa, of which Francisco Rodrigues was a legitimate representative. This document is undoubtedly an important tool for researchers working on the history of Japan during the 16th century on account of the varied themes it deals with and the originality of the moral debate set in motion by the doubts raised by the missionaries living in the Japanese archipelago. 2005 artículo científico 0874-8438 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=36101102 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=361 Bulletin of Portuguese - Japanese Studies application/pdf Universidade Nova de Lisboa Bulletin of Portuguese - Japanese Studies (Portugal) Vol.10-11 |
