Present data was based on baseline of a randomized clinical trial. Medical Outcomes Survey Shorts-form 36 was used to assess quality of life.AChi-square test was used to compare the proportions of dyspepsia. At test was used in the comparisons ofmean quality of life. Significant differences were observed between patients with functional dyspepsia and organic dyspepsia on role-emotional and mental health domains. In a gender stratified analysis, women with functional dyspepsia presented significantly lower levels of role-emotional and mental health than those with organic dyspepsia. Among men, this relationship was only valid for the role-emotional domain. On the other hand, those with functional dyspepsia had quality of life scores significantly higher than those with organic dyspepsia on the physical functioning and bodily pain domains. These results highlight the importance of further research on the emotional aspects in dyspepsia treatment, especially in women with functional dyspepsia. 2008 artículo científico 1645-0086 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=36290105 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=362 Psicologia, Saúde e Doenças application/pdf Sociedade Portuguesa de Psicologia da Saúde Psicologia, Saúde e Doenças (Portugal) Num.1 Vol.9
