contents Geochemical distribution and mobility factors of Zn and Cu in sediments of the Reconquista River, Agentina Alicia Rendina Martha Bargiela Alicia Fabrizio de Iorio Silvana Arreghini Laura de Cabo Ciencias de la Tierra zinc river copper sediment sequential fractionation This paper describes the distributions of Cu and Zn among the geochemical phases of thesurface sediments of the Reconquista River and its main tributary streams (La Choza andDurazno). The distribution patterns of both metals among the geochemical non-residual phases, obtained by a sequential extraction procedure did not suffer alteration in any of the geochemicalenvironments of the seven sampling sites. The main mobile retention phase of Cu wasorganic matter-sulfide, whereas for Zn they were the oxides of Fe and Mn. The mobilityfactors of Cu and Zn allowed distinguishing areas of high and low anthropogenic impact. Themobility factor of Zn was close to one in the upper basin, except for La Choza Stream, presentingvery high values in the main channel of the river. The mobility factor of Cu was high in themiddle and low stretches of the river, while in the upper basin the content of mobile Cu waslow. The decline both in mobility factors and total content of metals in the sediments near theriver mouth evidenced the self-purification power of this watercourse. 2001 artículo científico 0188-4999 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=37017403 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=370 Revista Internacional de Contaminación Ambiental application/pdf Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México Revista Internacional de Contaminación Ambiental (México) Num.4 Vol.17
