contents Biosorption of Pb(II) by Thiobacillus ferrooxidans Graciela Rodelo Agustín Gómez Arturo Ruiz Manríquez Ciencias de la Tierra heavy metals metal recovery Mainly due to the commercial value and the environmental impact that the heavy metals cause,a number of studies has been conducted to determine the possibility of removing and recoveringthem from diluted solutions. The traditional methods for removing metals have severaldisadvantages when they are present in concentrations lower than 100 mg/L. In this lowconcentration range, biosorption, which uses biological materials as adsorbents, has beenconsidered an alternative method. In this work, variables such as pH and biomass chemicaltreatment have been studied for their effect on the capacity of lead biosorption by Thiobacillusferrooxidans. Studies to determine the time for lead adsorption were carried out as well. Resultsindicated that a capacity as high as 443 mg of Pb(II)/g of dry biomass can be obtained at atemperature of 25 °C and pH 5 when cells under chemical treatment were used, and that thebiosorption process occurred quickly within 30 minutes. 2002 artículo científico 0188-4999 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=37018104 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=370 Revista Internacional de Contaminación Ambiental application/pdf Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México Revista Internacional de Contaminación Ambiental (México) Num.1 Vol.18
