- Mean lethal body concentration of cadmium in Crassostrea virginica from a mexican tropical coastal lagoon Guadalupe Barrera-Escorcia Irma Wong-Chang Ciencias de la Tierra oyster metals Mandinga lagoon bioconcentration The acute effect of cadmium on Crassostrea virginica from the Mandinga Lagoon,México, was evaluated and related to corporal metal accumulation. The bioassay wasperformed with oysters exposed to lethal Cd concentrations, at temperature of 24.13 °Cand salinity of 22.54 . The exposed organisms accumulated from 261.20 to 508.80mgCd/g dry weight in average. The metal incorporated in organisms exposed to thehighest Cd concentration was superior in oysters which died during the experiment, than in survivors. However biococentration factor was lower in the highest Cd concentrations. There was weight loss associated to the exposition and it was greater insurvivors. Deterioration could be related to a greater metabolic effort to compensate theentrance of Cd. The mean lethal concentration, CdLC 5072h=24.87 mg/L, and the meanlethal body concentration, CdLBC 5072h=502.25 mg/g (4.47 mmol/g), had good adjustmentsto the Probit model. The body concentration, the bioconcentration factor and theLBC 50 associated to the physical and chemical parameter values, particularly salinityand temperature, could constitute useful tools in the evaluation of the cadmium adverseeffects in Mexican coastal areas. 2005 artículo científico 0188-4999 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=37021201 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=370 Revista Internacional de Contaminación Ambiental application/pdf Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México Revista Internacional de Contaminación Ambiental (México) Num.2 Vol.21
