contents Problems in the regulation of carcinogenic chemicals in an international perspective. I. Interpretation of experimental data Robert Nilsson Ciencias de la Tierra The influence of non-scientific factors on risk-assessment in the regulatory context isdiscussed. On the purely technical level, most controversy when dealing with datainterpretation has been centered around certain types of tumors caused by exposure tonon-genotoxic agents in the rodent, and which many scientists consider to be ofdoubtful relevance to man. The reasons for decreased reliance on such toxicologicalfindings are high spontaneous background levels and/or mechanistic considerations.Such tumors include target organs like liver, bladder, forestomach, renal tubuli, as wellas certain endocrine associated tumors, like those of the thyroid, mammary glands, pituitary, and adrenal glands (phaeochromocytomas). While discussing examples of controversial experimental carcinogens, theassessment by international organizations as well as regulatory decisions made bydifferent national agencies in Europe and North America are presented. 1993 artículo científico 0188-4999 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=37090204 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=370 Revista Internacional de Contaminación Ambiental application/pdf Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México Revista Internacional de Contaminación Ambiental (México) Num.2 Vol.9
