  • Technologies: transculturations of race, gender & ethnicity in Arturo A. Schomburg's Masonic writings Jossianna Arroyo Sociología Afro diaspora migration Freemasonry technologies For Arturo A. Schomburg, Freemasonry was a space for civic interactions, which wenthand in hand with two main complementary agendas: first, the archival agenda,Schomburg’s main task of re-writing black history in the Amricas; and second, his fight for equal citizenship, against racial discrimination. Schomburg dedicatedthirty years to his Masonic duties, which have been obscured by his labors as ahistorian and bibliophile. In this paper I analyze the transcultural shifts of race, gender, and ethnicity in Schomburg’s Masonic writings, which I regard as technologiesof representation of a migrant subjectivity in exile. Masonic writing also offersother opportunities to underscore Schomburg’s modernist ethic, and shed lighton many questions scholars have had about his historical persona, primarily, how he decided to abandon his commitment to Cuban and Puerto Ricanindependence after 1898 and commit himself to the civic, social, and politicalstruggles of African Americans. 2005 artículo científico 1538-6279 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=37717101 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=377 Centro Journal application/pdf The City University of New York Centro Journal (Estados Unidos de América) Num.1 Vol.XVII
