In offeringboth a panorama and a critique of the decolonized poetic traditionof Puerto Rican authors, I first point out the obstaclesfaced by such authors and the strategies that they have employedto make themselves visible. The essay also glimpses at thecontradictions between poetic visibility and the horizon ofexpectations of the reader of poetry. Other issues branching outof the discussion are: the problem posed by the dichotomy oforal and written poetry and the need for a pan-theoreticalapproach that would not homogenize the particularist textsavailable.
