José Manuel Álvarez González Política Galicia election rational choice electoral behaviour This article is based on empirical data analysing the electoral behaviour of Galicians. Theresearch is centred on the regional elections of 1997 and the general elections of 2000, two politicalmoments that substantiate the present structure of the Galician party system. Using post-electoralstudies and the data available in the Galician Political Barometers, we seek to identify the elementsand variables that determine the party choice of the voters. The specific focus is to discover thefactors influencing voting in the present political panorama and to contrast various analyticalperspectives in the political competition scenario of Galicia.
