- Crossing the border: a collaborative project using ICQ chats between Spanish learners in Texas and English learners in Mexico Rebecca Bearden Celia Ann Durboraw Linden Lengua y Literatura Intermediate Spanish learners at the University of Texas at Austin chatted with Advanced English learners (540-567 TOEFL) at the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM) in Monterrey, Mexico, by using the computer labs at each university in fifty-minute sessions on six occasions. Students spoke in English the first half of the period and Spanish during the second half or vice versa. The instructors had previously assigned chatting pairs and designated topics or activities to be covered in each of the sessions. While the students tested their linguistic expertise in their foreign language and enjoyed meeting new people on line, the instructors, by analyzing the recorded the chat sessions, could gain insight into the actual communicative process used by each conversation group. 2002 artículo científico 1405-4167 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=38401211 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=384 Revista de Humanidades: Tecnológico de Monterrey application/pdf Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey Revista de Humanidades: Tecnológico de Monterrey (México) Num.12
