contents Speech recognition in children with cochlear implants using two different speech processors Fabiana Danieli Maria Cecília Bevilacqua Salud Child Noise Hearing Hearing loss Cochlear implantation Purpose: To study comparatively the speech recognition skills in quietand noise background situation in children with cochlear implantsusing two different speech processors. Methods: It was evaluated 26children with cochlear implant device Nucleus 24M or 24K, CochlearCorporation, divided in two groups according to the speech processorused. The Group 1 consisted of 16 children who used the Sprint processorand the Group 2 consisted of 10 children who used the Freedomprocessor. The Hearing in Noise Test – Portuguese version of Brazilwas applied in the sound field in silence and in the presence of noisebackground situation. Results: The speech recognition performanceof Group 2 (Freedom) was higher than Group 1 (Sprint) in all evaluationsituations, with significant difference between groups only onquiet situation. Conclusion: The speech processor showed significantinfluence on speech perception in children users of Nucleus 24K and24M cochlear implants. The components of the signal processing availableon the Nucleus Freedom processor may have contributed to thebetter speech recognition performance of Group 2. Further research isneeded to complement these findings. 2013 artículo científico 2317-6431 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=391544053005 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=3915 Audiology - Communication Research application/pdf Academia Brasileira de Audiologia Audiology - Communication Research (Brasil) Num.1 Vol.18
