| contents | Shock response of a two-stage vibration isolation system Diego Francisco Ledezma-Ramírez Pablo Ernesto Tapia-González Martín Castillo-Morales Tania Paloma Berber-Solano Adriana Salas-Zamarripa Ingeniería two stage system shock response linear isolator degree of freedom Two-degree of freedom system, or two-stage mount are used to improve the high frequency vibration isolation performance with the disadvantage of increasing the mass of the system and adding a second resonance. The vibration isolation property is a well-understood topic for harmonic vibration considering linear and nonlinear elements, but not its shock response. The absolute and relative response of a two-stage mount under shock excitation is investigated in this paper. The effects of the damping ratio and the mass ratio of the two stage mount on the shock response are analysed. The potential advantages and issues behind this system are discussed and compared with the well-known single mount. Experimental validation was performed using two commercially available isolators and different masses. Findings suggested that a large mass ratio could reduce the shock response in terms of absolute motion. This effect is only significant for the case of short pulses and when the mass ratio is at least five. It is also found that is useful to have light damping only on the secondary stage as it results in improved shock isolation. 2020 artículo científico 1405-7743 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=40465092001 https://www.redalyc.org/journal/404/40465092001/ https://www.redalyc.org/journal/404/40465092001/html/ https://www.redalyc.org/journal/404/40465092001/40465092001.epub https://www.redalyc.org/journal/404/40465092001/movil 10.22201/fi.25940732e.2020.21n2.018 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=404 Ingeniería.
