Social Memory, Popular Movements and Political Participation Ruth Cardoso Antropología memory community Social movements urban anthropology political participation This lecture followed by a deba tceoncerns popular movements, in particular those which the author describes as libertarian, emerging in the city of São Paulo in the late 1970s and early 80s. It focuses on the building of memory, its relevance in creating a sense of identity and of community, and the issue of political participation.
