contents The approach of mothers towards the security of the child in a car in Sakaraya, Turkey Nursan Sevil Sahin Tuncay Müge Filiz Pýnar Topsever Nursan Dede Çinar Salud Child Safety Traffic Accidents Health behavior The aim of this study was to assess protective behaviour of families with children betweenthe age of 0-16 years concerning safety measures for vehicle transport. Inclusion criteriafor this cross-sectional, descriptive study were: having child/children between the age of0-16 years, sharing the same domicile with them and giving informed consent to participatein the study. Beyond the maternal attitudes facing their children’s safety, there werestudied the variables related to the mothers’ educational level, the number of children, the loss of children due to automobile accidents or illnesses. For the maternal attitudesanalyses, The Paediatric Preventive Behaviour Survey was applied using a 10 pointsresponse Likert Scale. The study group (n=248) was randomly selected among mothersfulfilling the above criteria. Data were collected during one year between February 2003and 2004. The results of the study revealed that, the higher the educational level of themother, the more important she considered safety measures for children in vehicles.Nevertheless, attitudes and behaviour concerning vital protective measures to preventchildren from major harm inside vehicles were not at a satisfactory level. It is obviousthat there is a need for education in order to raise the consciousness of the public andfamilies with children concerning safe behaviour in traffic to reduce/prevent inappropriatecareless behaviour leading to injury, disablement and death of children during trafficaccidents. 2006 artículo científico 1806-1222 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=40819108 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=408 Revista Brasileira em Promoção da Saúde application/pdf Universidade de Fortaleza Revista Brasileira em Promoção da Saúde (Brasil) Num.1 Vol.19
