contents Trayectoria escolar y selección universitaria: comportamiento del ranking como factor de inclusión a la educación superior Carlos René Rodríguez Garcés Geraldo Padilla Fuentes Educación Higher education social inclusion selective efficacy access to education equalitarian selection The university admission process in Chile is undergoing deep changes of its structure in pro of the social inclusion, at evaluating the effort deployed by the student in the various sectors along his school background. Within this scenario, the purpose of this article is to analyze performance of selection factors based on socio-economic and educative characteristics of the applicants, with special emphasis on the impact caused by including the Grade Ranking in diversification of the students, and its contribution to inclusion. For such purpose, and using the data base of the admission process to higher education in Chile in 2013, a series of descriptive statistical indexes of percent difference and association are built. Within the main findings it is worth to mention that the components of school background, specially the ranking, show less slanted distributions, and with a higher concentration in high percentages, and less influenced by socio-familiar or economic variables. The ranking, as an expression of school good performance, effort and dedication to study by the student, compensates non-desired selection slants of the traditional mechanism, making the university option more exclusive, which effect will depend on the value assigned by the university institution. 2016 artículo científico 1794-8932 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=413746578004 https://www.redalyc.org/journal/4137/413746578004/ https://www.redalyc.org/journal/4137/413746578004/html/ https://www.redalyc.org/journal/4137/413746578004/413746578004.epub https://www.redalyc.org/journal/4137/413746578004/movil es http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=4137 Sophia application/pdf Universidad La Gran Colombia Sophia (Colombia) Num.2 Vol.12
