Bactericidal assays using a 10:1 multiplicity of infection were performed to study bacterialphagocytosis and bacterial multiplication at 0 and 24 h post-inoculation. The rate of bacterial phagocytosiswas 1.4 ± 0.17 and 2.1 ± 0.54 bacteria/macrophage, whereas bacterial multiplication was 165% and263.7% in macrophages from resistant and susceptible cattle respectively.
