Arana Martínez Judith Salvador Cruz Multidisciplinaria (Ciencias Naturales y Exactas) obesity overweight overestimation Executive functions Obesity is a medical condition that affects millions of people around the world whose neurochemical, cognitive and environmental/social factors should be treated together for its better understanding. This review aims to analyse the latest research in order to understand the etiology and development of obesity with a focus on the most important aspects for treatment that extend beyond diet and exercise such as: a) the physiological mechanisms underlying energy homeostasis, b) cognitive deficits in executive functions, memory, attention and learning; c) emotional processing and stress d) environmental/social factors and e) body perception of obese individuals.
