- Biogeographic units in the Chihuahuan Desert: implications for regionalization and area nomenclature Juan J. Morrone Roxana Acosta Jesús A. Fernández Biología ecology biogeography north America nearctic region Biogeographic regionalization There are several biogeographic regionalizations of the Chihuahuan Desert province, which differ in the criteria used, and the names and categories given to the different biotic units recognized. We compared maps of these biogeographic regionalizations, detecting similarities and differences in the units recognized, and searched for endemic plant and animal taxa diagnosing them. Eight biotic units are recognized and named: Chihuahuan Desert province, Chihuahuan subprovince (including the Trans-Pecos and Mapimian districts), and Mexican Plateau subprovince (including the Saladan, Mexican Southern Arid and Tehuacán-Cuicatlán Valley districts). These subprovinces and districts are hypothesized to represent natural biotic units, each harboring a particular assemblage of endemic taxa. 2022 artículo científico 1870-3453 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=42575514001 https://www.redalyc.org/journal/425/42575514001/ https://www.redalyc.org/journal/425/42575514001/html/ https://www.redalyc.org/journal/425/42575514001/42575514001.epub https://www.redalyc.org/journal/425/42575514001/movil 10.22201/ib.20078706e.2022.93.3907 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=425 Revista Mexicana de Biodiversidad application/pdf Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México Revista Mexicana de Biodiversidad (México) Vol.93
