contents Assessment of the susceptibility of lacquered tinplate cans to corrosion in different solutions using electrochemical methods Jorge A. Calderón Carmen P. Buitrago Ingeniería Tinplate corrosion in containers electrochemical techniques Corrosion of lacquered tinplate cans in different solutions was assessed usingelectrochemical methods. Samples with and without lacquer coating were exposedto different solutions and their susceptibility to corrosion was evaluated using cyclicvoltammetry, Tafel curves and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The possibleformation of a passive layer on the container surface was evaluated according to thekind of hysteresis presented in the first cycle of voltammeter measurements. Tafelplots showed how the behaviour of the tin layer can change from anodic to cathodicdepending on the nature of the solution in contact with it, revealing the risk oflocalized corrosion. The effect of one additive in the solutions on the electrochemicalperformance containers was evaluated by electrochemical impedance. The impedanceshowed a deleterious effect of the additive, and corrosion processes appeared morequickly in containers packed with solutions modifi ed with additive. 2007 artículo científico 0120-6230 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=43004203 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=430 Revista Facultad de Ingeniería Universidad de Antioquia application/pdf Universidad de Antioquia Revista Facultad de Ingeniería Universidad de Antioquia (Colombia) Num.42
