contents Acoustic and mechanic characterization of materials used in manufacturing the soundboard of the spanish guitar: influence in the sonority Ennio Hugo Idrobo-Ávila Rubiel Vargas-Cañas Ingeniería Timbre volume duration soundboard physical properties This paper presents a study relating the most commonly used materials inmanufacturing the top plate of the Spanish guitar and some sound characteristics such astimbre, volume, and duration. Theoretically, the wood infl uences the quality of the soundand the vibrations of the membranes. Based upon these facts, an acoustic and vibrationalstudy was carried out in order to establish the relationship between the physical propertiesof the wood and the resulting sound quality. To do this, digital signal processing techniqueswere implemented. It was found that volume and sound duration were higher in guitars withGerman spruce soundboard, whereas guitars with Canadian cedar soundboard presentedmore homogeneous sounds. 2015 artículo científico 0120-6230 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=43042289004 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=430 Revista Facultad de Ingeniería Universidad de Antioquia application/pdf Universidad de Antioquia Revista Facultad de Ingeniería Universidad de Antioquia (Colombia) Num.76
