Twenty Jerseygrowing calves in total confinement, averaging154 kg of body weight. The forage mixturesused were: pseudostem:corn silage 0: 100%,40:60%, 50:50%, and 60:40%. Each group wasfed daily 1.5 kg of protein concentrate plus 50g of animal salt and weighed weekly. Theexperimental period lasted 63 days, after 7 daysof adaptation to diets. During the last 3 days anapparent digestion analysis was carried out. Thedry matter intake, crude protein and neutraldetergent fiber intake, decreased linearly(P<O.OI) as the pseudostem percentageincreased in the forage mixture. The greater drymatter intake was found when only corn silagewas fed. The concentration of ruminal ammoniadecreased linearly (P<O.OI) as pseudostemporcentage increased.
