Plantations registered 62.3% as realplanted area; of this, 80% was covered withtrees. Among the principal tree quality problemsbranches competing with were the apicaldominance (26%), leanning trees (27%) andsteam straightness (30%) were observed as themost important. Forking was not found as aserious problem (1.4%), nor were phytosanitaryproblems (6.7%). On average, the plantationsregistered 843 commercial logs/ha and 254trees/ha quality 1+2. However, 52% of theprojects did not register, at least, 250 quality1+2 trees/ha. Sixteen percent of the projectshave more than 1200 commercial logs quality1+2/ha. The Mean Annual Increment of thecommercial volume (dbh>IO cm with bark) ofquality 1+2 trees was 6.76 m3/ha/year, but 16%of the projects registered a MAl over 12m3/ha/year. The general quality index for teak inNicoya Peninsula before thinnings (ICG) was3.04.
