We present a theoretical framework on the inform ation technologies (IT) and its busines s importance, the contribution s of the organizational factors for the im plementation of the MES, as we ll as the main concepts and the possibl e applications of this tool. T he built theoretical framework was decis ive to subsidize the research performance in the studied company. It was verified that the ME S significantly contributed to the manufacturing related to impro vement of cost, quality, flexibility, conformity and reliability. It w as concluded that the MES enriched the informa tion quality generated from th e plant floor, i.e., information that makes it fast, standardized , reliable and precise. When integrated to the Enterprise Resource Plannin g (ERP) of the company, the MES filled out a gap, offering information other to other functional areas of the organization.
