contents sea level rise and the geoid: factor analysis approach Hongzhi Song Alexey Sadovski Gary Jeffress Física, Astronomía y Matemáticas Sea level the geoid factor analysis Sea levels are rising around the world, and this is a particul ar concern along most of the coasts of the United States. A 1989 E PA report shows that sea levels rose 5-6 inches more than the glo bal average along the Mid-Atlantic and Gulf Coasts in the last ce ntury. The main reason for this is coastal land subsidence. This sea level rise is considered more as relative sea level rise than globa l sea level rise. Thus, instead of studying sea level rise globally, thi s paper describes a statistical approach by using factor analysis o f regional sea level rates of change. Unlike physical models and semi-e mpirical models that attempt to approach how much and how fast sea leve ls are changing, this methodology allows for a discussion of th e fac- tor(s) that statistically affects sea level rates of change, and seeks patterns to explain spatial correlations. 2013 artículo científico 1409-2433 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=45328812005 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=453 Revista de Matemática: Teoría y Aplicaciones application/pdf Universidad de Costa Rica Revista de Matemática: Teoría y Aplicaciones (Costa Rica) Num.2 Vol.20
