contents The Motion of a Pair of Charged Particles J. Franklin C. LaMont Física, Astronomía y Matemáticas Synge iteration Relativistic motion Point particle fields Delay differential equation We revisit the problem of two (oppositely) charged particles interacting electromagnetically in one dimension with retarded potentials and no radiation reaction. The specific quantitative result of interest is the time it takes for the particles to fall in towards one another. Starting with the nonrelativistic form, we answer this question while adding layers of complexity until we arrive at the full rela- tivistic delay differential equation that governs this problem. That case can be solved using the Synge method, which we describe and discuss. 2014 artículo científico 0103-9733 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=46429745014 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=464 Brazilian Journal of Physics application/pdf Sociedade Brasileira de Física Brazilian Journal of Physics (Brasil) Num.1 Vol.44
