- Fractal rain distributions and chaotic advection Ronald Dickman Física, Astronomía y Matemáticas Localized rain events have been found to follow power-law distributions over several decades, suggesting parallelsbetween precipitation and seismic activity [O. Peters et al., PRL 88, 018701 (2002)]. Similar power lawscan be generated by treating raindrops as passive tracers advected by the velocity field of a two-dimensionalsystem of point vortices [R. Dickman, PRL 90, 108701 (2003)]. Here I review observational and theoreticalaspects of fractal rain distributions and chaotic advection, and present new results on tracer distributions in thevortex model. 2004 artículo científico 0103-9733 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=46434201 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=464 Brazilian Journal of Physics application/pdf Sociedade Brasileira de Física Brazilian Journal of Physics (Brasil) Num.2A Vol.34
