- Validity of semiclassical gravity in the stochastic gravity approach E. Verdaguer Física, Astronomía y Matemáticas In semiclassical gravity the back-reaction of the classical gravitational field interacting with quantum matterfields is described by the semiclassical Einstein equations. A criterion for the validity of semiclassical gravitybased on the stability of the solutions of the semiclassical Einstein equations with respect to quantum metricperturbations is discussed. The two-point quantum correlation functions for the metric perturbations can bedescribed by the Einstein-Langevin equation obtained in the framework of stochastic gravity. These correlationfunctions agree, to leading order in the large N limit, with the quantum correlation functions of the theoryof gravity interacting with N matter fields. The Einstein-Langevin equations exhibit runaway solutions andmethods to deal with these solutions are discussed. The validity criterion is used to show that flat spacetime asa solution of semiclassical gravity is stable and, consequently, a description based on semiclassical gravity is avalid approximation in that case. 2005 artículo científico 0103-9733 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=46435211 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=464 Brazilian Journal of Physics application/pdf Sociedade Brasileira de Física Brazilian Journal of Physics (Brasil) Num.2A Vol.35
