contents Effects of Varying Curvature and Width on the Electronic States of GaAs Quantum Rings A. Bruno-Alfonso T. A. de Oliveira Física, Astronomía y Matemáticas Effective Electronic states mass approximation GaAs elliptical quantum rings Stationary states of an electron in thin GaAs elliptical quantum rings are calculated within the effective-massapproximation. The width of the ring varies smoothly along the centerline, which is an ellipse. The solutions ofthe Schr¨odinger equation with Dirichlet boundary conditions are approximated by a product of longitudinal andtransversal wave functions. The ground-state probability density shows peaks: (i) where the curvature is largerin a constant-with ring, and (ii) in thicker parts of a circular ring. For rings of typical dimensions, it is shownthat the effects of a varying width may be stronger than those of the varying curvature. Also, a width profilewhich compensates the main localization effects of the varying curvature is obtained. 2006 artículo científico 0103-9733 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=46436354 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=464 Brazilian Journal of Physics application/pdf Sociedade Brasileira de Física Brazilian Journal of Physics (Brasil) Num.2A Vol.36
