  • Application of Electrochemical Technology for Water Treatment of Brazilian Industry Effluents Camila Carvalho de Almeida Patricia Rachel Fernandes da Costa Maria Jucilene de Macedo Melo Elisama Vieira dos Santos Carlos A. Martínez-Huitle Multidisciplinaria (Ciencias Naturales y Exactas) real effluents Brazilian industries Electrochemical technologies Electrochemical technologies are a promising alternativefor the treatment of wastewaters containing organic pollutants. Themain advantages of these processes include environmental compatibility, versatility, energy efficiency, safety, selectivity, amenabilityto automation and cost effectiveness. However, the effectiveness ofthe electrochemical approaches depends strongly on electrode materialsand cell parameters (mass transport, current density, water composition,etc.). Then, the use of high performance anodic materialscan achieve high efficiency and lower the operating cost. Therefore, several research groups are recently studying the applicability of theelectrochemical technologies for treating real domestic and industrialeffluents, with the aim of that a diversification of techniques mustbe sought, adapting the treatment to each situation, as much as possible. In this context, this paper presents an overview of the applicationof electrochemical technologies to treat industrial effluents inthe northeastern region of Brazil, emphasizing the use of direct andindirect electrochemical oxidation processes as an alternative to pollutionabatement of effluents generated by textile and petrochemicalindustries. 2014 artículo científico 1870-249X https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=47532759004 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=475 Journal of the Mexican Chemical Society application/pdf Sociedad Química de México Journal of the Mexican Chemical Society (México) Num.3 Vol.58
