contents An Application of the Concept of Non-Equilibrium Chemical Potential to Describe Transport Properties of Solutions M. Mayorga B. Domínguez Multidisciplinaria (Ciencias Naturales y Exactas) Thermal diffusion Nonequilibrium Thermodynamics Thermodynamic internal degrees of freedom We explain how the concept of thermodynamic internaldegrees of freedom (TIDF) is used to extend the concept of chemicalpotential when some irreversible processes are present. Particularly,we choose the velocities of Brownian interacting particles as TIDFand after using the Gibbs entropy postulate and the postulates of nonequilibriumthermodynamics, we obtain the Fokker-Planck (FP)equations for the Brownian particles under a temperature gradient, which we use to obtain the corresponding momentum and energy balanceequations. We analyze the diffusion regime where we obtain anovel expression for the thermal difffusion coefficient. In addition, applying a dimensional analysis to the internal energy balance equation,we find a temperature dependence of the heat conducting timethat leads to conclude that the heat conduction is faster in a solutioncomposed of suspended particles in a solvent compared with a simpleliquid. 2000 artículo científico 1870-249X https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=47544116 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=475 Journal of the Mexican Chemical Society application/pdf Sociedad Química de México Journal of the Mexican Chemical Society (México) Num.1 Vol.44
