contents Optimum Temperature in the Electrostatic Desalting of Maya Crude Oil Erik Fetter Pruneda Enrique Rivero Borrell Francisco Javier Garfias Multidisciplinaria (Ciencias Naturales y Exactas) density desalting viscosity temperature conductivity The main variables that impact the crude oil desaltingprocess were analyzed by developing mathematical models that representthe variation of Maya crude oil density, conductivity and viscosityas functions of temperature. An increase in process temperaturehas two opposite effects. First, a decrease in oil density and viscosityimplies a significant increase in the settling rate of waterdroplets within the oil phase; which allow for a greater amount of oilto be processed. This increases the profit resulting from performingoil desalting. On the other hand, crude oil conductivity increasesexponentially with temperature, which implies a higher rate of powerconsumption. A simulation model was developed to determine theoptimum temperature at which a maximum economic benefit occurs. It was concluded that an optimum temperature occurs at 135oC. 2005 artículo científico 1870-249X https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=47549104 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=475 Journal of the Mexican Chemical Society application/pdf Sociedad Química de México Journal of the Mexican Chemical Society (México) Num.1 Vol.49
