Símuta Lopez Sergio Xochihua Moreno Omar Viñas Bravo Sara Montiel Smith Socorro Meza Reyes Jesús Sandoval Ramirez Multidisciplinaria (Ciencias Naturales y Exactas) oxo 3β 5α hydroxy steroids A convenient pathway to obtain 3β-hydroxy-6-oxo-5α-steroids from 3β-acetoxy ∆5-steroids isreported; the methodology was applied to the synthesis of laxogenin (7), substance that behaves asa plant growth hormone. This is an alternative way to produce an important functionality found inmany examples of naturally occurring steroids. The developed procedure uses inexpensive reagentsand can be carried out in four steps.
