contents On pressure drop in particle-laden horizontal channel flow Santiago Laín Martin Sommerfeld Ingeniería turbulence pressure drop Pneumatic conveying stochastic modelling The present study analyses the pressure drop ina particle-laden six meters long horizontal channel, with rectangular cross-section from both, experimentaland numerical perspectives. Experiments andcalculations are carried out for different sphericalparticles and mass loadings. Additionally, stainless steel walls with different wall roughness are studied. In all experiments the air volume flow is constant inorder to maintain a fixed gas average velocity of 20m/s. As a result, the pressure drop in the channel isstrongly influenced by the wall roughness. Higherwall roughness implies higher pressure drop becauseof the increase in wall collision frequency, wherebymomentum is extracted from the fluid due to twowaycoupling.
