In the last event, adductor muscle was the mainstorage organ of protein and carbohydrates. Lipids weremainly stored in gonad and digestive gland. Althoughproteins were the highest concentrated substrate in the threeorgans studied, they were not utilized in reproduction;therefore proteins accumulate in maturity and their highestvalues occur at spawning during August. Changes incarbohydrates concentration of adductor muscle suggest thatthis is the most utilized substrate during the reproductivecycle. When comparing the two events, El Niño and La Niña,a significant difference in concentration of protein andcarbohydrates occurs in the last period. It is likely thatenvironment conditions prevailing during this period enhanceabundance of protein-rich food, especially in summer andautumn. With regards to the accumulated lipid concentrationit is concluded that both events El Niño and La Niña did notaffect it. In the two events, the highest gonad lipidconcentration was noted during reproduction. As decreasingthe adductor muscle carbohydrates, lipids of digestive glandand gonad are used up, thus furnishing the needed energy forthe rest of the spawning season 2007 artículo científico 0717-3326 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=47942319 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=479 Revista de Biología Marina y Oceanografía application/pdf Universidad de Valparaíso Revista de Biología Marina y Oceanografía (Chile) Num.3 Vol.42
