These areas belong toMexico’s largest protected area: El Vizcaíno Biosphere Reserve. Despite the outstanding features ofthis lagoon complex, there are no studies on its inhabitant tishes nor is there a systematical fieldcollection with records in museums or collections in North America or any other place. The listincludes 59 species of 50 genera and 36 families. The 11,864 specimens collected were cured andcatalogued in the ichthyological collection of the Centro Interdisciplinario de Ciencias Marinas(CICIMAR-IPN) in La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico. Seven of the species here reported extendtheir known distribution range northward. One of them was registered for the first time for the Pacific west coast. The presente of tropical and temperate species in these areas confirms the idea of alternateboundaries between zoogeographic regions of California and the Eastern Pacific and establishes theselimits with an icthyological mixture at latitude 28”N. The importance and value of scientific collectionsis discussed. 1996 artículo científico 0185-3880 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=48022108 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=480 Ciencias Marinas application/pdf Universidad Autónoma de Baja California Ciencias Marinas (México) Num.1 Vol.22
