The Pacific red snapper (Lutjanus peru) fishery in the southwestern Gulf of California was analyzed with an age-structuredsimulation model. In addition to natural mortality (M) and fishing mortality (F), the model incorporates juvenile by-catchmortality (f) caused by the shrimp fishery in the zone. Four simulated scenarios were tested in which different levels of mortalitywere combined. Contrary to what is established in the National Fishing Charter, simulation outputs showed that the Pacific redsnapper fishery cannot be developed if both F and f are kept unregulated as presently occurs. According to the model, the fisherycould only be developed with an effective regulation of these mortality sources, which implies control measures for both theartisanal fleet and the shrimp fleet. 2004 artículo científico 0185-3880 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=48030406 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=480 Ciencias Marinas application/pdf Universidad Autónoma de Baja California Ciencias Marinas (México) Num.4 Vol.30
