| contents | Fecundity of Sebastes mentella and Sebastes norvegicus in the Irminger Sea and Icelandic waters Fran Saborido-Rey Rosario Domínguez-Petit Dolores Garabana Þorsteinn Sigurðsson Ciencias de la Tierra Ice land fecundity Irminger Sea Sebastes mentella Sebastes norvegicus Fecundity of redfish Sebastes mentella and Sebastes norvegicus in the Irminger Sea and Icel andic waters was analyzed in relation to several maternal features and oocyte developmental s tages. The mean potential fecundity in S. norvegicus was estimated to be 123,300 oocytes and relative fe cundity averaged 116 oocytes g –1 . Mean potential fecundity in S. mentella was 50,013 oocytes and relative fecundity was 64 oocytes g –1 . Strong fecundity down-regulation (50% on average) was observe d during oocyte devel opment estimated from September to November, when oocyt es reached the advanced stage of vitellogenesis. T his result implies th at fecundity can only be comparable between individuals pre senting the same stage of oocyte develop ment. However, the development ra tes differed between species a nd between stocks, and therefore the same s tage is reached at a different time of the year. Fecundity varie d significantly with female we ight and length, while condition had little influe nce on fecundity variation. 2015 artículo científico 0185-3880 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=48039202003 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=480 Ciencias Marinas application/pdf Universidad Autónoma de Baja California Ciencias Marinas (México) Num.2 Vol.41 |
