[7] presented a theoretical function that explai ns the relationship between the area of landslides associated t o a certain triggering event (heavy rainfall, snow melting, earthquake) and its freque ncy. This probability density function was applied to a landsli des inventory mapped outside the city of Medellín, distinguishing between lan dslides (in natural slopes) and slope failures (so called man-m ade slopes). As a result, the statistic behavior of large landslides is very simi lar to the theoretical curve presented by the authors referred above, while the probability of occurrence of small landslides, those with areas smaller than 5x10 -4 km 2 , is much higher, especially on man-made slope failures. Considering that this behavior is clearly manifested on man-mad e slope failures, it can be inferred that there is an effect of the road on the increase of the periodicity of the slides and there for, the po pular hypothesis of associating road slope failure only to prec ipitation is questionable. 2014 artículo científico 0012-7353 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=49632363015 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=496 Dyna application/pdf Universidad Nacional de Colombia Dyna (Colombia) Num.187 Vol.81
