  • The use of gypsum mining by-product and lime on the engineering properties of compressed earth blocks Eliana Rocío Jaramillo-Pérez Josue Mauricio Plata-Chaves Carlos Alberto Ríos-Reyes Ingeniería product stabilization environmental gypsum mining by construction materials Disadvantages of compressed earth blocks are their poor mechani cal properties and low resistance to water damage. Therefore, t heir use is vulnerable to deterioration and require care and maintenance , which depends on the degree of stabilization and compaction o f the clay soil. Gypsum mining wastes and lime used as stabilization mater ials to improve the properties of these construction materials. The compressive and flexural strength, softening in water, drying s hrinkage and unit weight determined. Strength values increased with both mining waste additions. Highest resistance against softening in water obtained with a 25% of mining waste. Drying shrinkage re duced with increasing mining waste content. Dry unit weight was not i n the recommended standards. Results showed that gypsum mining wastes can be used as alternative materials to stabilize compre ssed earth blocks. 2014 artículo científico 0012-7353 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=49632758006 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=496 Dyna application/pdf Universidad Nacional de Colombia Dyna (Colombia) Num.188 Vol.81
