  • Reduction of computational times using the equivalent rectangle concept in the physics-based surface – subsurface models Juliana Hurtado Jesús Causapé Raphael Abrahao Anibal J. Pérez Ingeniería surface calibration parameterization su bsurface model Equivalent rectangle The interaction between surface a nd subsurface domains in a bas in can be studied using a physics-based model; however, the cal ibration and validation processes requir e a high computational effort du e to their complex geometry. The authors propose an alternative to reduce the computational times during t he calibration model by simplif ying the geometry of the watershed that applies the equivalent rectangle concept. A quasi-3D equivalent r ectangle is used to define the specific soil parameters of the Lerma river basin through sensi tivity analysis that will later be applied in the calibration. The simplified m odel can highly accurately ident ify the parameter range for the initial values of the calibration process as well as if the reduction in runni ng times is significant. Thus, the rectangle equivalent concept offers an alternative to speed-up the calib ration of a 3-D fully-coupled surface sub-surface model. 2016 artículo científico 0012-7353 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=49648868006 https://www.redalyc.org/journal/496/49648868006/ https://www.redalyc.org/journal/496/49648868006/html/ https://www.redalyc.org/journal/496/49648868006/49648868006.epub https://www.redalyc.org/journal/496/49648868006/movil en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=496 Dyna application/pdf Universidad Nacional de Colombia Dyna (Colombia) Num.199 Vol.83
