contents A clustering algorithm for ipsative variables Jessica Rubiano-Moreno Carlos Alonso-Malaver Samuel Nucamendi-Guillén Carlos López-Hernández Ingeniería Clustering ipsative variables motivational profile The aim of this study is to introduce a new clustering method for ipsative variables. This method can be used for nominal or ordinal variables for which responses must be mutually exclusive, and it is independent of data distribution. The proposed method is applied to outline motivational profiles for individuals based on a declared preferences set. A case study is used to analyze the performance of the proposed algorithm by comparing proposed method results versus the PAM method. Results show that the proposed method generates a better segmentation and differentiated groups. An extensive study was conducted to validate the performance clustering method against a set of random groups by clustering measures. 2019 artículo científico 0012-7353 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=49663345011 https://www.redalyc.org/journal/496/49663345011/ https://www.redalyc.org/journal/496/49663345011/html/ https://www.redalyc.org/journal/496/49663345011/49663345011.epub https://www.redalyc.org/journal/496/49663345011/movil 10.15446/dyna.v86n211.77835 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=496 Dyna application/pdf Universidad Nacional de Colombia Dyna (Colombia) Num.211 Vol.86
