  • From Repas de bébé to Tarnation Elizabeth Czach Comunicación Ethics Documentary Home Movies Performance This paper examines some ethical issues arising from the re- contextualization of home movies in documentary film. Drawing upon Paul Arthur's observation that home movies engender a specific 'performative exchange' the author argues that t he 'access' home movie subjects grant filmmakers (predominately family members film ing each other) often exceeds other subject/filmmaker relationships. The familiarity between filmmaker and subject in home movies raises significant ethical concerns when thos e 'private' films are re- contextualized in a film meant for 'public' viewing. Jonathon Caouette 's Tarnation (2003), a film that makes extensive use of home movies and home video, is dis cussed as illustrating of some of these ethical issues. 2006 artículo científico 1980-5276 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=504450754002 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=5044 Interin application/pdf Universidade Tuiuti do Paraná Interin (Brasil) Num.1 Vol.1
