contents Late Triassic-early Jurassic Neotethyan evolution at Northern Gondwana (Jordan and Libya, Mediterranean region) I.M. Makhlouf Ciencias de la Tierra Triassic Gondwana Neotethys Transgression Early Jurassic The Early Mesozoic record of northern Gondwana was strongly influenced by sea level fluctuations during theopening of the Neotethys Sea. Detailed facies analysis of the Late Triassic / Early Jurassic Abu Shaybah Fm(Libya, western Mediterranean), and the Triassic Mukheiris Fm (Jordan, eastern Mediterranean) documents thetransgressions and regressions that took place during the Neotethys opening. Both formations present similarfacies and depositional environments, and are made up mainly by continental siliciclastic sequences and minorcarbonate deposits. The facies arrangement in both zones indicates deposition in a tide-dominated environmentas a part of a transgressive sequence, succeeded by a high-energy sandy fluvial deposition. In both regions thebraided fluvial systems drained basinwards and impinged into the Neotethys Sea located to the north. The fluvialdeposition of both formations ended abruptly due to renewed Neotethyan marine floodings that resulted inthe development of carbonate shelf environments. 2006 artículo científico 1695-6133 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=50540303 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=505 Geologica Acta: an international earth science journal application/pdf Universitat de Barcelona Geologica Acta: an international earth science journal (España) Num.3 Vol.4
