Method: E xperience report on the PRÓ - CUIDEM, the carer steering group, with meetings coordinated by nursing teachers as part of the outreach program entitled Nursing in Health Care for the Elderly and their caregivers, in Niterói - RJ. Results: Caring for the elderly with dementia is a difficult task when there is no support and guidance and caregivers receive guidelines and disseminate to others who are in the same situati on, improving the quality of life of caregivers.
