Method : The analytical framework was based on the theory of Basic Human Needs . Data were collected at a te aching hospital in Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul state, Brazil, using a specially designed instrument, and drawn from medical records. Results: The psychophysiological needs affected by the event were oxygenation, hydration, nutrition, and cutaneous - muc osal integrity. The affected psychosocial needs were low education, low income, lack of access to information about prevention and health promotion, and social and family difficulties. The victim’s search for spiritual balance after the act of aggression w as attributed to impact on a psychospiritual need.
