Method: A literature review in the period from 2005 to 2010 in electronic databases. Results: 13 studies were selected according to the theme, there was a predominance of original studies with quantitative approach. Conclusion: the delay in the diagnosis of tuberculosis is not a recent concern, especially in countrie s with high rates of tuberculosis. Regarding the type of delay, it is necessary to investigate whether the health service or the individuals with TB.
