  • Efectividad del tratamiento corto entre amoxicilina y ampicilina en embarazadas con bacteriuria asintomática M. Serrano-Santillán T. Arrieta-Pérez A. Jaimes-Valenzuela L. Bautista-Samperio Medicina Pregnant women Family Medicine Asymptomatic bacteriuria Objective: We attempted to demonstrate that short treatment with amoxicillin is more effective than shorttreatment with ampicillin in pregnant women with asymptomatic bacteriuria. Materials and Methods: FromJune 2004 to January 2005, a quasi-experimental study was carried out by reviewing 205 urine routinelaboratory tests with colony count reports (bacteriuria and/or leucocyturia). Thirty pregnant women wereincluded by convenience sample with diagnosis of asymptomatic bacteriuria (AB) with confirmed urineculture and prenatal control, who were randomly divided into two groups (one managed with amoxicillin andthe other with ampicillin), both with short 3-day oral treatment, and a urine culture 10 days afterpharmacolgic management. We determined mean, standard deviation (SD), and χ2 with correction of Pirieand Hamden (p ≤ 0.01). Results: Mean age was 23.26 ± 0.59 years and 28.66 ± 0.59 years in the groupsadministered with amoxicillin and ampicillin, respectively; secondary-level schooling and married prevailedin both groups.. Global remission of AB was of 83.3% (39.9% of the group with ampicillin and 43.3% in theamoxicillin group); global recurrence of AB was 16.7% (10% with ampicillin and 6.68% with amoxicillin),without statistical significant difference as determined with the χ2 test and without modification for gestationtrimester. Conclusions: These results are useful to confirm that prescription of amoxicillin or ampicillin isadequate independent of gestation trimester using the 3-day short treatment, both drugs possessing the sameeffectiveness for AB remission in pregnant women. 2005 artículo científico 1405-9657 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=50730703 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=507 Archivos en Medicina Familiar application/pdf Asociación Latinoamericana de Profesores de Medicina Familiar A.C.
