contents SHOULD I LEAVE OR SHOULD I STAY? UNDERSTANDING DISPERSAL BEHAVIOUR Josabel Belliure Ferrer Comunicación fitness dispersal gene flow inbreeding competition Many factors infl uence dispersal decisions, and studying these factors can reveal the causes and determinants of dispersal. Animals leave their birthplace to solve three fundamental problems: habitat deterioration, competition, and risk of inbreeding. However, animals only disperse once they are physically fi t enough to reach and settle in the new location successfully. The dispersal process has three phases: departure from the natal area; transition (displacement); and settlement in the new habitat. Animals face different decisions in each of these phases. 2015 artículo científico 2174-3487 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=511751360005 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=5117 Mètode Science Studies Journal application/pdf Universitat de València Mètode Science Studies Journal (España) Num.5
